The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships were held Feb. 28 and March 1 in Fargo, N.D.

Seven Roos gained or broke personal records during competition Feb. 28.

Freshman Cosmas Ayabei and senior Oscar Emegano recorded the top finishes for the Roos.

Ayabei placed second in the men’s 5,000 meter run and third in the men’s 3,000 meter run. Emegano placed third in the men’s long jump.

Kim Nagy, from the women’s team, finished fifth in the high jump.

Kristen Hepburn also placed and competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Keenan Simmons ran the 200 and 400-meter in the finals as well.

The men’s team finished fourth overall, the highest they’ve placed since 2002.

Only three students competed in the finals Monday. One was Anthony Boyer. UMKC’s redshirt senior, Boyer, was named the meet’s MVP. He received medals for three events: the 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.

“The women finished seventh and improved on their point total from last year,” Head Coach Andrew Nordland said.

The competition has consistently been “dominated” by both the men and women’s teams of North Dakota State, who finished first again this year.

“Both the men’s and women’s team have worked really hard during the season,”

Nordland said. “Most all the athletes have shown a lot of improvement since the start of the season in early January.”

The Roos have started training for their outdoor meets. The first meet is March 26 at the Missouri Relays in Columbia.

The outdoor conferences will be held May 13-15 at Toledo University in Ohio.
