The women's cross country team is off and running at last Saturday's UMKC Invitational.

The UMKC men's cross country team came out with a bang in their second meet of the season at the UMKC Invitational. Sophomore Jimmy Keown sped into first place almost 20 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, safely securing his lead for the win at 16:48.16. Justin Simonich, junior, ran his way into the top 10 at 17:23.98 for the 5k. He took ninth place.

The men's team runners were not the only ones strutting on Saturday morning. UMKC women's cross country ran out to take three of the top five positions. Juniors Sarah Hiller and Jessica Scott and senior Holly Gureski came in at second (19:33.38), third (20:02.41) and fourth (20:32.35) place respectively at the meet. Hiller continues to do well after leading the way for UMKC at last weeks meet in Lawrence, Kan. She is a two-time All-Mid-Continent Conference honors recipient and is well on her way to a great season.

Keown comes to us from Purdue University and has done well earlier in the season, placing in the top 20 at the Bob Timmons Invitational. Kansas City's own Justin Simonich, out of Shawnee Mission East High School, continues to place in the top half of the runners at competition.
