I hope everyone enjoyed last week's events. If you didn't, have no fear, as I have another great week of fun-filled activities to keep you moving around Kansas City. If you happened to have attended some of last week's events, please let me know what you thought. Without further ado, here's your week of fun.
Tuesday
Head over to the Tivoli Theatres for "Double Vision," the annual showing of University of Missouri-Kansas City's student filmmakers' work. These films have already made it past judgment day at UMKC and are now ready and waiting for you. Watch. Enjoy. Critique. The films start at 7:30 p.m. and should last about 70 minutes with a follow-up with the directors. This event is free. Tivoli Theatre, 4050 Pennsylvania Ave.
Wednesday
Have something to say and feel you have no place to say it? Problem solved. Walk, ride or drive over to the Crave Café for Open Mic Night. 7:30-10 p.m. The Crave Café, 1615 W. 39th St.
Thursday
Looking for some nightlife? This is only for the 21+ crew. Smother Party at Davey's Uptown. This progressive rock is upbeat and driven, leading us to what should be a fun show. Davey's Uptown, 3402 Main St. 21+
Friday
If you are lucky, you have tickets to the Tool show at Kemper Arena. For those of us not inclined to the tunes of Maynard or finding ourselves proverbially bankrupt, there is another show happening. Check out Scratch Track at The Brick starting at 9:30 p.m. This totally awesome group will have your body moving to some spectacular acoustic hip-hop with a very vibe sound. The Brick, 1727 McGee St. 21+ $5
The Weekend
Saturday: Are you feeling like you or your kids have been left out in this week's events? No worries, I have you covered. Swing over to the West side for a free concert and other events at Block Party, 1727 Quindaro Blvd. Thi'sL (The X Hustla) will be performing. This show is free and open for all, so yes you can bring your little people.
Saturday/Sunday: Still feeling like you do not have enough to do? Check out the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, always fun for the whole family. This weekend, buy one ticket at the gate and get one free with five cans of food for HARCMart!
Hopefully, you will participate in at least some of these events this week. If not, I hope you are studying because sitting around moping with sadness is no way to spend your college days. For those drinkers out there, pick a designated driver early!
