Students to determine
Leach's fate
The final say on whether Marcus Leach is reinstated as Student Government Association (SGA) president rests in the hands of students. The Student Life Office announced there will be a campus-wide referendum vote after verifying a petition that called for Leach's reinstatement.
This is the latest development after a confusing, senate-led impeachment left the full student body out of the decision-making process.
Marcus Leach was impeached Feb. 1 and removed as SGA president on Feb. 15. The petition for Leach's reinstatement contained 450 student signatures. Only 429 were needed for a campus-wide vote. Leach filed an injunction to stay in office until a final decision was made, but the Superior Court denied the injunction.
Election Director Tyler Richenberger is arranging the campus-wide referendum, which will take place in about two weeks after adequate time for publicity.
Arts and Sciences Council dispute will go to court
In related news, the Superior Court must rule on the validity of the Arts and Sciences Student Council (ASSC) executive officers. Some students who were angry about the impeachment voted to remove several ASSC officers, including SGA senate representatives Justin Smith and Jason Finley.
The Student Life Office is encouraging the disputing parties to work out the issue by themselves. If a decision is not reached, then administration will resolve the issue.
The SGA Constitution mandates that academic council disputes be decided by the judicial process of the Superior Court.
