Communication studies with media studies emphasis, minor in French
1I am a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and was member of the Activity and Program Council. I also have been to hundreds of campus events including basketball games, SGA meetings, social events, the Diversity Empowerment workshop, and a lot of other events. I really am dedicated to UMKC and only hope the best for its future.
2I would go out onto the campus and really get to know students. Without students on campus and knowing their needs, UMKC would not exist.
3Probably the University Center. I work there, I go to events there, I meet people there, and I sometimes eat there.
4As much as I like the Wundadog lady, I am allergic to hot dogs and well, Sodexho I've been eating since I was in kindergarten, so my body is used to it.
5The diversity is the best thing; you see so many different kinds of people that you wouldn't even have realized had the same interests as you whether they are Indian, Asian, gay, straight, African American, male, female.
6A better library; it is difficult sometimes to go to the library when it closes at 11 p.m. A 24-hour library would be great because students could study whenever, since many of them can only function best at 2 a.m.
7I feel that all of the ladies running are strong leaders on this campus and I believe any one of them would be great as queen. As for the men, good luck to you and I hope to see the best man win!
Marina Kulish
Junior, biology/chemistry with minor in healing and humanities
1I am part of different student organizations around campus, and I am also part of Greek Life. Currently I am the president of the Biological Sciences Student Government and secretary of Pre-Med Society. Recently I have become the public relations officer for Activity and Program Council. I am also part of the local sorority on campus, Delta Rho, and hold office within it.
2I would try to attend as many different student activities or meetings. I would like to see the different characteristics of UMKC from students' eyes. I would also talk to the students and ask them what they would like to see UMKC do for them, get a diverse group of answers and see how UMKC can befit and accommodate its students better.
3I spend most of my time on campus in the School of Biological Sciences; there is an office that the Biological Sciences Student Government occupies. I usually make a lot of accommodations for meeting there, arranging different speakers, ordering food, etc.
4I would probable prefer Wundadog, because it sounds good right now.
5I think the best thing about UMKC is the diversity of student organizations. Everyone can find an organization to get involved in that fits them, which fits with the diverse group of students UMKC possesses.
6I think that UMKC lacks faculty involvement in increasing student activities; faculty should excite students about different events around campus. When students first arrive at UMKC they general hear a lot about how getting involved will make their college experience better, but after the initial arrive there is not much excitement about getting involved. If faculty maybe announced different events around campus which might pertain to the students they are lecturing to, students would consider getting more involved.
7If I could say anything to the other candidates it would be good luck and that I am running against and with an amazing group of people.
Lilli Pickett
Sophomore, early childhood education
1I am the vice president of Alpha Delta Pi and also a member of the UMKC Dance Team. I have taken on leadership positions my whole life and if I were the queen this would be one more opportunity. I am at all the home basketball games and have a lot of school spirit, which is very important for the queen considering she speaks at events for prospective members.
2I would work on great and creative public relations ideas and get the school out to more people. I don't think many people realize how great of a school UMKC is and in order for this university to have a bigger campus feel, public relations is a necessity.
3I spend the most time in the [School of] Education studying or going to class. When I'm not there you can probably find me at the Rec Center working out or dancing around.
4I'm not quite sure what Wundadog is, but I'm not a big fan of Sodexho so I will go with Wundadog. It sounds cool at least.
5The diversity.
6I would like UMKC to offer a student organization that fights against racism, inequality and segregation. Even though it seems that these have died out, they are still very prevalent in today's society and I would like to see UMKC students make a difference.
7I think all of the candidates this year are great and whoever is crowned queen and king will be excellent representatives of UMKC.
Genevieve Serville
Junior, theater
1I am extremely involved on campus in organizations such as Delta Zeta, Order of Omega, UMKC cheerleading and the honors program. This qualifies me because I represent many diverse student groups which help to understand the needs of many students. Also, these organizations have given me the ability to meet and relate to many types of people. As Court Warming queen I would be able to help get other students more involved on campus as a whole.
2I would try and reduce students' fees and make books cost less. I would also implement a football team and build a multi-purpose sports arena that would house both the football and basketball teams. I would also create a student union with activities such as pool, darts, movies, and pinball and outside restaurants such as McDonald's and Taco Bell. Finally, I would do away with Sodexho.
3I have a lot of classes in Royall and Haag Halls and go to Swinney a lot for cheerleading practice. I also have one class in the Performing Arts Center. I live on campus, however, and spend most of my time there doing homework, sitting at the computer or hanging out.
4I really love hot dogs and greatly dislike Sodexho; however, Wundadog kind of freaks me out because it reminds me of Dan Ackroyd's cart from "Caddy Shack."
5The best thing is our awesome mascot. Really though, the best thing is that it is located in the prime location next to the Plaza, Westport and Brookside, where college students get together and have good time.
6I would love it if UMKC had a football team.
7I think all the candidates are great people that have great qualities. I wish them all well during Court Warming week and hope everything works out for the best. I'm looking forward to getting to know them all better during the week and just having a good time at all the events.

1I am involved in many different aspects of campus where I have the opportunity to serve the students, be a leader, formulate new ideas. I also encourage people to come and watch UMKC Theater productions since I am heavily involved in it, representation in track and field competition, entrepreneurship conferences, volunteering and a voice of the students. In the organization I am involved in I get to come up with ideas to generate student involvement in campus activities. I love to be involved in many different aspects and hope I can be an example to other students to find an organization that they like and get involved with it.
2I would look into finding out what the most pressing students needs are and take some course of action to meet their needs.
3In the morning I am usually in Royall Hall and the Bloch School for classes; during mid-day I spend it in the administration building working as a work-study in the admissions office; in the afternoon I am on the track jumping into sand due to track practice; and at night I am in the Theater Department rehearsing for a show.
4Wundadog.
5I think the people who attend UMKC are what make it great. The University is rich in diversity and has great things that surround the campus that some other schools are lacking. People here are very creative, energetic wonderful.
6I think that UMKC needs more dormitories and a student center. The campus needs something that makes commuter students want to stay on campus. We need a location that becomes a community for students. More dorms would bring more students on campus and it would make residential life even more exciting.
7I think all the candidates are wonderful; they are all highly involved in many things on campus. They have great qualities about them. Well wishes to everyone.
Jonathan Myers
Senior, political science
1I consider myself a leader and not a follower. I think that I'm best qualified for the title of Court Warming king [because] I think I can best relate to the students. I have been on both sides of the line from student to leader, and I keep both of those factors close together.
2I would have a student appreciation day. It would be a day to be glad to be a student and a day to relax.
3The University Center. I would be there either studying or hanging out with friends.
4Wundadog.
5The people are the best thing. I have met some friends here that will last a lifetime.
6A football team!
7I don't have any negative things to say about any of them other than good luck. Whoever wins king or queen I feel will be adequate for the title.
Brian Gettinger
Sophomore, civil engineering with minor

1In my two years at UMKC I have been very involved in many different aspects of the University. As a scholarship athlete for the men's basketball team I devote a large percentage of my time representing the University in athletic events as well as teaching basketball camps in the community. Aside from basketball, I am a founding member of the Missouri Kappa-Chi Colony of Sigma Alpha Epsilon here at UMKC. We were colonized last April and I put forth the rest of my free time (albeit little away from basketball) towards the growth of our colony and the attainment of our charter. I also am a representative of the men's basketball team to the Student Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC) that oversees many functions for the student-athletes.
2I would work to get the ball rolling to establish a "Fraternity Row" here at UMKC. Finding a place to put all the fraternities and sororities together would be extremely beneficial to the university as a whole. The Greek community here at UMKC provides valuable community service to the community as well as helping to bolster student life here on campus. Having a fraternity row would help bring the individual efforts of the fraternities and sororities together to form a better whole, and it would make UMKC appear less like a commuter school and more like a traditional university.
3I spend most of my time on campus at Swinney Recreation Center doing something that involves basketball. In preseason and postseason you will probably find me lifting weights or running to stay in shape, and during the season I'll be on the courts practicing everyday.
4I've never eaten Wundadog, but after a year of living in the dorms I know how boring Sodexho can be. Although from what I've seen they might be doing a little bit better this year, I'm still going to have to go with Wundadog.
5The best thing about UMKC is its connection to the community. Being located right next to the Plaza and close to downtown is an undeniable asset. With so many companies located nearby, with a degree from UMKC you can be sure to find employment somewhere nearby if you so desire. Being from Kansas City it's really close to home, so I am able to keep in touch with my family and friends while still having the experience of being away at school. It's the best of both worlds.
6UMKC needs a facility on campus where our men's and women's basketball teams can play that is not part of our student recreation center. Swinney Recreation Center is great, but it's not suited for Division I athletic competition. Our teams currently have to play their "home" games at Municipal Auditorium, and take up gym space from the other students by practicing at Swinney. Municipal Auditorium is an excellent facility, but its location off campus hurts student participation in athletics and in overall attendance. Also this "home" arena forces our teams to play in an environment they do not practice in, creating a sense of always playing games away from home.
7I think that the Court Warming Committee did an outstanding job selecting this year's candidates. Each male and female is well qualified to be our king or queen. May the best man (or woman) win!

1I love being an active part of UMKC's campus. I am involved in the Chi Omega sorority and the UMKC track team. I also am on the staff of the newly established Roo Crew. I love UMKC and give as much school spirit as possible! I have a diverse group of friends and enjoy being a part of different organizations! Being involved in campus life and with UMKC is very important. I understand as an athlete the support that is needed and the pride that is necessary for UMKC.
2Bring in some big people. Maybe a concert or two. I think Jason Mraz was a really good idea; we should totally do more events like that!
3Swinney Rec Center - we have track practice everyday for hours! Some days I contemplate if I should just move in!
4Tough choice. Luckily I live off campus and don't hit up either too often, but Sodexho has improved this year, so I'd have to say Sodexho. Plus there is always an option of a PB&J or salad at the cafeteria!
5The people. I have such an amazing and diverse group of friends, I love it! The people at UMKC are definitely what have made it home to me.
6Better housing, have more of an on-campus lifestyle and a big college feeling.
7Good luck! We've all put a lot of effort into this, now its time to have fun with Court Warming week!
