UMKC lost to Mid-Con leaders IUPUI, 95-59, Saturday night in Indianapolis, Ind.
In the fist two minutes the Jaguars scored on two lay-ups, then Guasco sank one of two free throws. The Kangaroos did not score again until 13:53, when Ayuba sank a lay-up to make the score 3-15.
Over the next five minutes UMKC scored 11 points, with threes from Mark Huppe, senior, and Blackwell, but was at a standstill with seven minutes to play in the first half. IUPUI scored 17 unanswered points, taking a commanding 31-point lead, before the Kangaroos' Blackwell sank a three to bring the score to 17-45. With a minute and a half left in the first half, UMKC scored eight of the nine points. The Roos finished the half trailing 23-47.
In the second half the Kangaroos shot better, but the Jaguars' lead was too large for a comeback.
UMKC's first points were at 18:22 when Ayuba sank a jump shot, and on the possession a lay-up, bringing the score to 27-51. Over the next five minutes NDSU 11 of 15 points to take a 31-point advantage with 13:42 left to play. The Kangaroos narrowed the gap to 30 on three occasions with threes from Huppe and a lay-up by sophomore Jeremiah Hartsock. The Jaguars won 95-59.
UMKC finished with two players shooting double digits. Huppe scored 15 points and lead the team with four assists. Day finished with 11 points, three assists and two steals.
Ayuba was right behind with nine points, while Blackwell finished with eight points and four rebounds. Hartsock lead the team with five rebounds, three offensive.
The Kangaroos are now 5-3 in the Mid-Con and 8-10 overall. UMKC returns to action Saturday night against Centenary in Shreveport, La.
