Celebrating Academic Success Luncheon: UMKC's Office of Minority Student Affairs wants to celebrate students' academic achievements. If you have received a 2.75 GPA or better for fall 2005 semester, enjoy a lunch. African American History & Culture House, 5245 Rockhill Rd., noon to 1 p.m. RSVP by sending us a copy of your grade report for fall 2005 by Jan. 23. Junior Recital: Mark Stauffer, cello, with Beth Davis, piano. Program includes J.S. Bach: Suite in D Minor; Felix Mendelssohn: Lieder ohne Worte in D Major; Beethoven: Sonata in A Major; Gabriel Faure: Elegy. White Hall, 7:30 p.m. Free.

Tax Questions for Writers: Discussion and workshop for writers and helping to identify tax-deductible expenses for professional writers. Held at Arts Incubator, 115 W. 18th St., 6:30 p.m. $10 admission.
Spirit Ride: APC and UMKC Athletics offer students a free ride to the men's basketball game. Get pumped up on the Spirit Bus and win free prizes. Then see the Kangaroos battle Oral Roberts at Kemper Arena at 7 p.m. (Televised on Metro Sports). Meet in the University Center at 6 p.m.
