"As of now students will continue enrollment the way they have through the STAR system, the touchtone system or in this office," said Swink.
In the future the new system will allow students to enroll, drop or add courses and access personal information 24/7.
"The new Web application will allow students to apply [to UMKC] immediately. It will be much faster than going through the paper process," said Enrollment Services Coordinator Chris Chidester.
According to Chidester, the changes that students will notice most will be an improvement in usability and self-service. Instead of searching for information by clicking on a series of "bread crumbs," everything will be available and organized on one page.
Upgrading Admissions from 8.0 to 8.9 will basically reorganize screens; eliminate steps and transition from "bread crumbs" to Outlook.
"Web sites will be better streamlined." said Chidester. "Students will get from A to B faster."
At the Feb. 1 Student Government Association Senate meeting PeopleSoft is sure to be a topic of interest. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in 106 University Center. Students can also stay up-to-date on the University's progress by visiting www.umkc.edu\registrar\sis.
"We will be going out to each academic unit to talk about implementation in order to keep them informed throughout the process," said Doug Swink. "No one will be left in the dark."
As soon as PeopleSoft goes live and students begin to use it, various training resources will be made available. At this time the particulars of that training have not been decided. However, the training will come in multiple forms in order to ensure Peoplesoft is accessible and effective for everyone.
"You have a period of hard work but in the end our students, which are our life blood, will be better. We will all be better," said Chancellor Guy Bailey in his welcome speech at the kickoff celebration.
