The Kangaroos showed little this week in their three Mid-Continent Conference games. With a home loss to IUPUI Thursday night, UMKC fell to fourth in the conference. Wins against Western Illinois and Oakland would usually seem promising; however, neither of these teams have been very good this year. These are games the Roos should win.

Western Illinois (62) vs. UMKC (72)

On Monday's game against Western Illinois, the Kangaroos led almost the whole game. The biggest lead by Western was only five points. Western Illinois also turned the ball over 18 times, giving the Roos 25 points off those turnovers.

The highlight of the game came from junior Quentin Day. After being fouled, he was given a one-and-one free throw. Everyone on the court seemed to assume it was a two-shot foul and did not move when he missed the first shot. Day rebounded his own miss, and laid it in for two points.

Day played a great game but also played the entire 40 minutes. He has the highest minutes per game average in the conference, averaging over 39 minutes per game.

Dee Ayuba, junior, played nearly the entire game as well with 37 minutes. Ayuba earned himself a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He shot 7-9 from the line and also blocked a shot.

In a game they handedly won, UMKC only shot 37 percent from the field. They also only shot 26 percent from three-point range, missing all nine three-point attempts of the second half.

IUPUI (68) vs. UMKC (62)

IUPUI finds itself atop the Mid-Continent Conference. A Thursday night victory against the Kangaroos only solidified their standing. In a game that felt it could have gone either way, the Roos were just plain outplayed.

The Kangaroos led at the half by four points. They had 10 assists and had only turned the ball over four times. The Roos had also out-rebounded their opponents 12 to 15. By shooting well and controlling the ball, UMKC had gained control of the game.

That was the first half.

The second half was a completely different story. The Roos turned the ball over nine times in the second half and did not shoot very well.
