The Roos lost the game 60-42.
Ayuba led the team in rebounds (12) and was UMKC's top scorer with 11 points. Right behind him was Blackwell with 10 and Day with seven. Both Ayuba and Day had four fouls; Blackwell, Spears and Gettinger had three apiece.
UMKC vs. Longwood University
The Roos returned home to face the Longwood University Lancers at Municipal Auditorium on Saturday night.
Dee Ayuba and Day led the team in scoring with 21 points each. Blackwell was close behind with 18.
Spears and Ayuba tied at nine rebounds apiece, while Blackwell had seven. Day and Blackwell had eight and seven assists respectively.
The game started out slow. Day put up a jumper at 19:32 to place the Roos on the board, 2-3.
Almost two minutes went by without a UMKC basket. Then a tip-in by Blackwell, a three by Gettinger and a lay-up by Spears found the score tied up at 9-9. It was the first of 10 ties in the game, five of which took place in the first half.
A jumper by Day, followed by two dunks by Spears and a lay-up by Ayuba, brought the Kangaroos into the lead, 19-13. The Lancers battled back to tie things up again at 21-21. The Roos got the upper hand at 34-28 with a couple of jumpers by Ayuba, a tip-in by Spears, a dunk and a foul shot by Gettinger, and a lay-up by Blackwell.
Again Longwood tied things up and then took the lead, forcing UMKC into the locker room down by two, 36-34.
Quinton Day tied things back up in the second half with 18:21 on the clock; the score was 39 all.
Several shots by Day, Ayuba and Blackwell, as well as a three-point shot by Gettinger off an assist by Day, gave the Roos a 10-point lead with 13:50 left in the game.
With the clock at 9:26, a foul shot by Longwood's Kirk Williams tied tings up again before his second shot gave them the lead, 61-60.
A tip-in by Ayuba and UMKC was back in the lead, maintaining control of the game.
Just over six minutes would pass before another Lancer basket brought the score to 72-62.
The Kangaroos won the game by 10 points, 79-69.
