Rifle team yet to get a win in its sights
The UMKC rifle team competed on last Saturday against the University of Nebraska. "Nebraska is a tough team," said Head Coach Mike Hornbeck. "They have a bunch of good shooters, and we shot as well as we could on that particular day."
Leading the team in the smallbore competition was senior Kilee Courter, with a score of 574. Right behind her was Calle Courter, senior, 566; Alicia Sawyer, senior, 564; and Lee Wellborn, freshman, 546.
Calee Courter led in the air rifle competition; she shot a 575. Sawyer came in next for the Roos with a 562, while Kilee Courter and Wellborn shot 554 and 552 respectively.
"Scores weren't as close as we would have like them to have been, but we are getting close to the end of the semester and we traditionally shoot better after the break," Hornbeck said
Also shooting unscored for the Kangaroos was Chaz Parrott, freshman, who shot a 544 in smallbore and a 529 in air rifle.
Misty Chanek took first place in smallbore for Nebraska with a 590. Kristina Fehlings won in the air rifle competition with a 589.
UMKC finished with an overall score of 4493. However, Nebraska took the win with a shooting total of 4668.
