Dr. Bryan Le Beau, former dean of the UMKC College of Arts and Sciences, will not seek reinstatement as dean, Interim Chancellor Stephen Lehmkuhle said in an e-mail sent to UMKC faculty, staff and students last Friday. Le Beau spoke about his decision. "I am comfortable with my decision," Le Beau said.
UMKC pre-med student Colby James McLain, freshman, died in a car crash last Monday near 59th and Ward Parkway. McLain, 19, lived in the Cherry Street Residence Hall. He graduated from Blue Springs South High School in May 2005 and entered UMKC this fall.

As we near holiday break, the UMKC Provost Search Committee continues to accept and review applications from candidates hoping to become UMKC's new provost. CAMPUS REMEMBERS AIDS VICTIMS WITH QUILT DISPLAY: UMKC commemorated World AIDS Day last week with a campus-wide display of huge 12 x 12 foot quilt panels. The eight quilts on the UMKC campus each consisted of sections dedicated to the memory of someone whose life was lost to the HIV/AIDS battle.

Floyd offers new tuition proposal University of Missouri System President Elson Floyd recently announced a tuition plan for the four system campuses. The new proposal ties tuition increases to inflation rates. It also ties tuition rates and inflation to state support.
KU intelligent design class canceled Last Thursday the University of Kansas withdrew a class on intelligent design. Paul Mirecki, head of KU's Religious Studies Department, requested the spring semester class he would teach be canceled. The announcement came after e-mails Mirecki posted on an Internet discussion site-KU Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics-came to light.
Woman receives world's first face transplant The recipient of the world's first partial face transplant is in excellent physical and mental health, according to her surgeon, Dr. Jean-Michel Dubernard. The woman's facial disfigurement was caused when a Labrador mauled her in May.
