Ujama Webster and Kenda Webster, representatives for Black United Front, taught a large crowd of interested students the fundamentals of Kwanzaa last Friday afternoon at the African American History and Culture House. Students also enjoyed a soul food lunch. The UMKC Minority Student Affairs (MSA) event featured guest presentations including poet Michael Long. MSA intern Aretha Perry believes the African holiday is misunderstood by many students.
"We really wanted to inform students of Kwanzaa history and its significance in African culture," said Perry. "We thought we could represent that in guest speakers, and we also had a candle-lighting ceremony."
