Roos swamped in Gator land

The UMKC men's basketball team ended their stay in the Sunshine State on a dull note, losing to the Florida Gators 86-65 in Orlando, Fla. Sunday afternoon. Florida sophomore Alex Tyus scored 25 points and the Gators burned the Roos for 52 points in the paint, running their record to 5-1 on the season.

Ladies split home openers 1-1

Coming off a big loss at Iowa State in their first regular season game, the UMKC women's basketball team returned to Swinney Rec. for two home games, taking the first Nov. 19 against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIU-E) but dropping a close one Nov.

Roos KO'd in NCAA first round match

UMKC sophomore goalkeeper Ken Cooper's superb performance went all for naught as the Kangaroos were bounced out of the NCAA College Cup tournament in a 1-0 first round loss to the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane Nov. 19. Many of Cooper's nine saves on a chilly evening in Tulsa, Okla.

Roos get results on the road

With victories over Wichita State, Bradley, and Florida Gulf Coast, the UMKC men's basketball team went 3-2 over the Thanksgiving break.

Roos vs. Shockers The Kangaroos, playing all five of their contests on the road, first travelled to Wichita State Nov. 19. With four players scoring in double figures and poor Shocker free throw shooting down the stretch, UMKC was able to escape with a 66-63 win.

Roos soccer celebrates NCAA slot

The UMKC men's soccer team celebrated their Summit League tournament championship victory with a watch party at the 810 Zone on the Country Club Plaza Nov. 17. Head Coach Rick Benben and his players gathered with parents, well-wishers and UMKC Athletics Department staff to watch the unveiling of the NCAA College Cup tournament brackets, televised on ESPN U that evening.

Summit League wants "Food Fight" Beginning Dec. 4, the Summit League will conduct "Food Fights" before 20 selected conference basketball games. The Summit League has designated 10 games each for conference men's and women's hoops programs to see which university can raise the most in food and cash donations.

Roos' losses at California tournament make three in a row

Over the break, UMKC's women's basketball team participated in the Courtyard by Marriot San Luis Obispo Holiday Beach Classic, beginning the road tournament against host California Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo on Friday. Despite 22 points from junior guard Chazny Morris (19 of them in a second half streak), the Roos fell in a close game, 69-62.
