PROP 8 SPURS PROTEST

Hundreds of protestors, gay and straight alike, took to the streets Saturday at the Country Club Plaza as part of a nationwide protest against the recent passage of California's Proposition 8 and similar ballot measures in other states.

'Dialog in the Dark' - seeing the world differently

Take a minute and sit down. Then close your eyes for a moment and when you open them you only see darkness. The only thing that guides your movements is a cane that you push out in front of you, guiding your steps along everyday scenes of life that can be so treacherous when you can't see them.

Proposition C: power for change

Proposition C passed Nov. 4 in Missouri with nearly two-thirds of voting citizens in favor of the initiative. Proposition C will require investor-owned, electric utilities to generate or purchase from renewable energy sources that will equal at least two percent of retail sales by 2011, and 15 percent by 2021, including at least two percent from solar energy, according to the ballot.

Fighting for soldier's lives

Addressing the affects of war on all involved, Avila University hosted, "The War Within: An Exhibit Revealing the Veteran Suicide Epidemic and the Hidden Wounds of War" last Tuesday. Key speakers at the forum included Army Infantry Sergeant Michael Pruitt, Army combat medic from 1992-2000 Amanda Cherry-Haus and Marine veteran Valarie Fletcher, but the floor was open for all to engage in the conversation.

Students greening campus

Thanks to a new class in the Environmental Studies Program, students are learning to take a hands-on approach to sustainability. Last spring, Geosciences Professor Caroline Davies and Urban Planning and Design Professor Michael Frisch teamed up to teach the cluster course Environmental Sustainability.

Campus discusses transit
