The UMKC men's soccer team finished its 2008 home schedule on a perfect note, prevailing in a cold war over Missouri State University 1-0 last Tuesday at Bourke Field. By virtue of the win, the Kangaroos kept an unblemished home record of 7-0 for the season, and moved their overall record to 9-4-2 (3-1 Summit League).
A month ago, I gloated over my fantasy football franchise's surge to the top of its respective Yahoo! league. After writing that column, my team, the Tirebiters, promptly dropped its next two games. But since that setback, they have gone on to win two in a row and currently sit in second place with a 5-2-1 record.
At a time when they needed a convincing win over a lesser conference opponent, the UMKC men's soccer team faltered, losing 2-1 in double overtime to the Gents of Centenary College Saturday afternoon in Shreveport, La. Playing one man down in the 104th minute, Centenary (4-8-1; 2-1 Summit League) shocked the Roos when freshman midfielder Aaron Bergman stroked his first goal of the year in a one-on-one situation against UMKC sophomore goalkeeper Ken Cooper.
Coming back from a 0-2 deficit Wednesday, the Roos went on to win six straight sets - three against Drake University, and then another three against Chicago State University (CSU) on Saturday. Taking a break from conference play, the UMKC volleyball team hosted both teams last week at the Swinney Recreation Center.
UMKC Athletics nears end of NCAA Division I certification process On-site campus evaluations are planned this week, as the NCAA will send a team of five peer reviewers from various campuses nationwide to UMKC as a part of the university's Division I certification process.
