Town halls offer abundant information

Interim Chancellor Leo Morton and Provost Gail Hackett hosted a town hall meeting Friday on the Volker campus addressing issues facing UMKC, with more faculty than students in attendance. On Thursday, a similar meeting took place on the Hospital Hill campus.

Men in heels marched across campus last Thursday as they took on the challenge to walk a mile in women's high-heeled shoes. The Women's Center hosted its second annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence as part of its Violence Prevention Program.

Hospital Hill wants its problems solved

The UMKC Faculty Senate overwhelmingly approved a motion "endorsing the concept of changing the name of Hospital Hill Campus to the UMKC Health Sciences Campus (HSC)" at its Sept. 23 meeting. Senator Peggy Ward-Smith, Nursing, had presented a list to the senators of 25 requests gathered from her colleagues on the Hospital Hill campus and the name change was the first item on the page.

Chancellor's lunch on the Quad a success

Studying abroad is easier than you think

Featuring programs in over 40 countries, UMKC's Center for International Academic Programs held its Study Abroad Fair last Thursday. This was the fifth annual year for the event. International exchange students, Study Abroad advisors, program representatives, past Study Abroad participants and financial aid agents answered questions for the students, staff and faculty who attended the event held in Pierson Auditorium.

2008 sustainability goals near completion

The UMKC Sustainability Team met Wednesday for their monthly meeting to discuss all things environmental on campus. At the beginning of the year, the team made up of students, staff and faculty developed a list of seven goals to accomplish this year. "We are getting really close to having our list complete," Kaye Johnson, coordinator of Campus Facilities Management, said.

Lambda Chi Alpha hosted its annual Watermelon Fest Saturday morning at the University Playhouse, mixing fun with charity and drawing a large crowd. "This is a fantastic event," said Zach Tebow, organizer and member of Lambda Chi Alpha. "I would like more people to come out to it.

Obama campaign rallies young voters Actor and political activist Don Cheadle made a stop at Metropolitan Community College - Penn Valley Thursday for the Youth Vote Day of Action Kickoff and Voter Registration Drive. The state wide Youth Vote Day of Action was organized by the Missouri Campaign for Change and took place at 36 college campuses across Missouri.

Sept. 21 12:38 a.m. Information - A student was followed and cursed at near 49th Street and Troost Avenue. He feared he would be robbed. Sept. 22 12:48 a.m. Warrant Arrest - A suspect was arrested at 51st Street and Troost Avenue for outstanding warrants.
