Cough up my freedom

With the passage of Question 3 this past week, or for those who are uninformed as to what Question 3 is, the smoking ban in all bars, restaurants and, sidewalks in the city, I had to offer my take. In a country that is now stepping more deeply into the realm of legislating what individuals can and cannot do with their own bodies, are they going too far? We are now forced to wear our seat belts in our own automobiles for "our" safety, we no longer reserve the right in many states to spill our own brains all over the highway when riding a motorcycle, we are being told with greater frequency where we can and cannot smoke, and many cities have even made food with trans fats illegal.

Exhale, fellow smokers - we'll survive the ban

The Blue Room at 18th and Vine streets, one of my favorite spots in Kansas City, has had a smoking ban for years. If a jazz club can do it, any place can. I remember the first time I went there and the reason for the ban was explained to me. "We have the American Jazz Museum next door," a waitress told me.

What did you think of KU's win? "You got the wrong guy to ask because I really didn't watch it. I thought it was a big upset for the other team they played. They had a really good chance and it was really close and they were able to keep up with big KU, but the big box KU won it all.

U-News shines at state media awards

The Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) announced its annual awards on Saturday, April 12. The University News, competing in Division I against other schools in Missouri, such as the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Missouri-Columbia and Washington University, won 17 awards for the calendar year of 2007.
