Kangaroo seniors lead by example

Saturday afternoon, the UMKC women's basketball team came to Tulsa, Okla. with one mission in mind. The Kangaroo women and their coaching staff seemed bound and determined to take the first step toward a Summit League Championship. Led by a senior-laden starting lineup, the Roos were in control of the game from the opening tip off, and never let off the accelerator at John Q.

Felonious Intent When the UMKC Kangaroos men took the court Saturday night they expected a battle with the IUPUI Jaguars. What started as a fair competition between two fierce competitors, by game's end turned out to be larceny in its rawest form. A late foul called after a mad scramble to get to a loose basketball confirmed fears that had hovered just beneath the surface throughout the game.

For these Kangaroo freshmen, it's time to pay it forward

Forwards James Humphrey and Spencer Johnson and guards Nathan Balch and Reggie Hamilton, freshman all, may have only played one season together, but are already forming a brotherhood. Johnson said since school started all four have been around each other, and the structure of the Roos' team enabled them to form a close bond.

Kangaroo on the rise, Mid-Missourian develops game in the heartland

Growing up in a small town and attending an even smaller school was never much of a concern for UMKC junior forward Dane Brumagin. The place he calls home is Montgomery City, a town located in the heart of Missouri just 40 miles east of Columbia. As if that didn't limit his social interaction enough, the 6'4" Brumagin attended Warrenton Christian High School, which included approximately 50 students in the entire institution.

Roos lose to Mastodons on senior night

T?he UMKC women's basketball team came out for its final regular season game of the year last Monday, and for the five seniors, it was the final home game of their careers. The Kangaroos stayed in it, down only six points with nearly seven minutes left in the opening stanza, but the Mastodons went on a 19-10 scoring run to close out the half.

Kangaroos' season ends after questionable call

In a game that few of the throng of UMKC fans felt should have ended as it did, the Kangaroos fell in bitter defeat at the hands of the IUPUI Jaguars 69-65 … or so it seemed. On Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Summit League Tournament, UMKC, the seventh seed, faced IUPUI, the second seed, at the John Q.

New track coach found close to home

Track and field was all newly-appointed UMKC track and field head coach Shameika McField knew growing up. So when Athletics Director Tim Hall hired her in the fall to work as the program's full-time Academic Advisor, she welcomed the break. It didn't last long.

Kangaroos win one of three at Shocker Invitational

UMKC softball took one step forward and a couple back over the weekend at the Shocker Invitational hosted by Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan. The Kangaroos dropped their opening game on Friday afternoon against Iowa State University (ISU), 7-0. ISU senior right-handed pitcher Amie Ford pitched a one-hit shutout in the Cyclones victory.
