Gary Forsee new UM president, Lamb executive VP

12.20.07 - The University of Missouri System (UM) Board of Curators today officially made Gary D. Forsee the 22nd president of the four-campus UM system for the next three years with a unanimous vote during executive session. He will begin his duties Feb. 18, 2008.

01.05.08 - The UMKC Kangaroos could not find their way out of the bush on Saturday night at Municipal Auditorium. In much the same fashion as many previous contests, the squad fell behind early, caught up and then fell short of the winning score. On this evening, UMKC and their head coach Matt Brown fell to the Western Illinois University Leathernecks 69-62.

01.05.08 - The Western Illinois University (WIU) Westerwinds, after trailing the first 31 minutes of the game, took a 43-40 lead on a three point shot by junior guard Amanda Walker. To the dismay of the UMKC Kangaroos and their fans, WIU would not relinquish that advantage again, winning 68-54 in Summit League action on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium.

01.03.08 - The top free throw shooting team in the nation, according to NCAA statistics, lived up to its reputation in the late stages of a closely contested game Thursday night at Municipal Auditorium. Hitting their last six points from the free throw line, the Jaguars finished off a surging UMKC squad 77-72 in Summit League action.

01.02.08 - UMKC women's head basketball coach Candace White-Whitaker is hopeful her Kangaroo squad will use their opening game of the 2008 calendar year as a spring board to bigger and much brighter things in the months that follow.
With temperatures in the teens outdoors and a balmy 82 degrees early in game action inside Sweeney Recreation Center, the Roos cruised to an easy 81-32 victory over the Newman University Jets on Wednesday night.

Blunt pushes to restore HSB funding

12.05.07 - Gov. Matt Blunt, R-Mo., announced today he will submit a supplemental higher-education budget request for $15 million in January, 2008, to the Missouri General Assembly. The money would complete construction of the UMKC Health Sciences Building (HSB). This funding was originally included in the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative of last spring.

Chancellor appoints new UMKC provost

12.05.07 - UMKC Chancellor Dr. Guy Bailey announced today Dr. Gail Hackett will begin her official duties as UMKC Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Feb. 15, 2008. Hackett, currently University Vice Provost and Dean of University College at Arizona State University (ASU), was one of a large pool of finalists which Bailey described as "absolutely terrific."

Roos win shocker 59-56 over Wichita State

12.15.07 - UMKC forward Kenny Simms waited 12 months for the opportunity to suit up with the Kangaroos. He knew, as did his teammates and head coach Matt Brown, that his first night in blue and gold would be significant - he just didn't know it would be this big. The Kangaroos led 57-56 with 16 ticks left on the game clock.
