An international flavor overflowed onto the court Saturday night inside Swinney Recreation Center. After a pregame ceremony recognizing the numerous countries represented in the UMKC student body, a basketball game broke out with UMKC pasting the Harris Stowe State University Hornets 94-51 in exhibition play.
New traditions seem to be popping up all over campus this year. In September, the athletic department put on the VolleyRoo Festival to open the 2007-08 volleyball season. All who attended had a fun time. This past weekend, with collaboration between the Student Life Office, the Activity and Program Council (APC), the Student Government Association (SGA), Residential Life and the Athletics department, Homecoming 2007 became a reality.

Tenured UMKC forward Kyle "Bubba" Perkins did his part to spoil Senior Night for the Rockhurst Hawks on a crisp Wednesday evening at Bourke Field. With a deft "nod and a goal" in the second half, coupled with a late assist, Perkins, a senior, sparked the Kangaroos to a 3-1 victory over their rivals.
The UMKC soccer boys remain in a fourth place tie in the Summit League standings after losing to the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts University (ORU) 3-1 Saturday night in Tulsa, Okla. "They beat us," said UMKC head coach Rick Benben. "They just played better.
On Friday night, the UMKC volleyball team traveled to Tulsa, Okla. to take on the Summit League leader, Oral Roberts University (ORU). The match took place in Cooper Aerobic Center where the Golden Eagles left little doubt who was the stronger squad in a 3-0 victory.
The UMKC volleyball team suffered its first defeat against The Centenary Ladies in the history of the two squads' competition against one another. UMKC played Saturday night at the Golden Dome in Shreveport, La. and fell by a 0-3 score. In the first game Centenary took an early 9-3 lead, with the only Roos points credited to Ladies' errors.
