Roos and Leathernecks weather 0-0 tie

After senior midfielder Ali Dorri's thunderous boot clanged off the near post late in the second overtime frame, it seemed safe to say the soccer gods wouldn't allow UMKC to score Saturday afternoon on a rain-soaked Bourke Field. Indeed, the Kangaroos shot blanks all afternoon, but so did the Leathernecks of Western Illinois University (WIU) as both teams battled the elements and each other to a 0-0 draw.

Experience is a must see UMKC students and fans enjoyed a special treat Friday night at the College Basketball Experience in downtown Kansas City, next door to the new Sprint Center. The Kangaroos' men's basketball team held its first practice on the indoor basketball court that sits one floor above the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

It doesn't take long to figure out senior golfer Whitney Davis is a friendly, family-oriented person. This makes Davis a good fit as the matriarch of a young UMKC women's golf team. She is the bridge between the past and the future. Davis says the team dynamics are different due to her being the only senior.

The UMKC women's volleyball squad suffered its worst loss of the season Friday night. The Indiana-University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Mastodons defeated the Roos three games to none at Swinney Recreation Center. IPFW opened game one with a serve and a two-point lead.

Kangaroos put second league victory in the pouch

The Kangaroos came up from down under to pull off a 3-0 win Saturday night over Oakland University at Swinney Recreation Center. Sitting in eigth place with a 1-6 Summit League record entering the night, the volleyball ladies managed to pull even with the Golden Grizzlies, who were one win better in the standings by the evening's end.

Tipton enjoys tight spaces, happy faces

Junior Mandy Tipton is not only the UMKC Volleyball team's libero; she is also the team's prankster. She does almost anything to get a laugh and sometimes recruits her two accomplices and teammates senior Lauren Starks and junior Danni Sperry. "We make lots of people laugh," Tipton said.

What makes this spot better than all the others? "We go back there so we can see the whole court," Schmidt said.
