Floyd, Ph.D. Those people, he said, were the best part of his job. "Getting to know the students and faculty and staff up close and personal," Floyd said was his favorite experience in serving as UMKC interim chancellor after the departure of former chancellor Martha Gilliland.
Peace rally on 4th anniversary of invasion in Iraq - Despite the cold, windy Sunday afternoon, some 400 to 500 anti-war demonstrators showed up at Penn Valley Community College on the fourth anniversary of the U.S invasion of Iraq. A temporary memorial displayed the boots of American soldiers killed in Iraq and of Iraqi civilians killed there, each with a tag of the dead person's name, hometown, and age.
It was announced this morning that Candace White had the interim moniker lifted from her title of head coach for the women's basketball team by University of Missouri-Kansas City athletics director Tim Hall. The now permanently appointed coach served two seasons under former head man Bo Overton prior to her unexpected promotion to the interim role in December, 2006.
Speculation ran rampant on campus last Thursday after UMKC Provost Bruce Bubacz announced his resignation by e-mail at 11:58 a.m. Faculty and staff uniformly expressed surprise upon hearing the news. Bubacz said only two people were informed beforehand of his decision: his wife, director of Events and Conference Services Joan Bubacz, and Chancellor Guy Bailey.
The Epsilon Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is making a contribution to the community by helping senior citizens, permanently disabled residents, and low-income residents with their tax refunds. Beta Alpha Psi is a national organization for accounting students and professionals.

The University of Missouri (UM) Board of Curators is searching for someone to replace outgoing UM System President Elson S. Floyd. As part of a statewide effort to get local feedback, two of the curators held a focus group at UMKC last Friday. "The University plays a critical role in the state of Missouri," said Board of Curators Chair Don Walsworth.
Fake parking permits are among a variety of ways students illegally park at UMKC. "It's not worth doing," said Matt Bunch, parking services officer. "It's a very humiliating ordeal." Parking Operations tickets at least one person every month for parking with a fake permit.
The Student Government Association (SGA) quickly drafted and voted in a resolution Wednesday night that would require teachers to give book orders to the bookstore on a deadline. "This is the type of thing SGA should be doing," School of Law representative James Hayes said.
Match Day med school madness - Nervous anticipation hid behind the smiles of 83 students in the School of Medicine graduating class of 2007 last Thursday. They were about to discover where they would do their residencies. Match Day had arrived. Highly trained in the medical sciences, almost all the students were careful not to "jinx" their hopes by making predictions, refusing to say even where they had applied.
More than one hundred students showed up at Pierson Auditorium on Thursday evening for a discussion on the proposed new student union. A referendum will be held among UMKC students April 3-5 to decide if they favor funding the project with a new student fee.

Campus New system to replace registration Students registering for summer and fall 2007 courses will no longer have to struggle through the hassle of STAR, CICS, PayRoos or Touch-tone, thanks to the new "Pathway" system. The new system is designed to "give students the ability to check their Financial Aid and billing information in a 24/7 environment," according to an e-mail sent to faculty by Provost Bruce Bubacz.
