U-News expands online, in community

The University News continues to grow in its online offerings, scope of coverage and distribution. One goal I've had since becoming editor-in-chief is for the University News is to expand online. This job will be carried on by next year's editor, but the newspaper is traveling toward this now.

Feminists are angry, but for good reason

Angry man-hater? Or a lesbian? I'm certain these are the questions people want to ask when they learn someone is a feminist. The question is, is this view valid? I'll be the first to say, it is not. In parts of the world women, in some cases men, are being murdered in the name of "honor," due to supposed offences of sexual activity, refusing to go through with an arranged marriage, and being a victim of sexual assault.

Disney finally creates a black princess

A few Christmases ago, I bought the little girl in my life, my best friend's daughter, a Disney Princess toddler bed with the matching comforter set. I bought it from my then employer Toys R Us. I was lucky to get it because it was the hot item for little girls that year; we often were sold out of it.

Women's Center recent firing Attention Faculty Members: It has come to my attention that my friend and close associate, Julie Coon, has been terminated in her employment from the UMKC Women's Center as part of a "house cleaning" by the new director. The provided justification was that Julie's services were no longer needed, yet Julie has never had unsatisfactory performance in her duties at the Women's Center.
