Roo Prints is outsourced

Walter Shoup's official title at UMKC Roo Prints is lead bindery - unofficially, he is the production manager. After 15 years of work in the main print shop at 5930 Troost Ave., he is looking for a new job. Seven others will also lose their positions. Their work is being outsourced.

Miller Nichols expansion still in early stages

Miller Nichols Library is preparing for a significant expansion and renovation. Though the planning is still in the initial stages, UMKC faculty and students will have a more spacious and technologically advanced library once renovations are completed. There has been talk about expanding Miller Nichols for the last decade and now the process is starting.

Bookstore versus the Internet

The high cost of college textbooks and the availability of books determines whether many students go to the UMKC Bookstore or if they turn to the Internet. "Usually I go to buy [books] and the bookstore is out of them," said Deirdre Hart, medical student.

Muslim Students Association celebrates festival

Despite the inclement weather Friday evening, about 70 people showed up for the Eid ul-Adha dinner party at Stack Auditorium in Royall Hall organized by the Muslim Students Association (MSA). According to Islamic beliefs, Eid ul-Adha - the Festival of Sacrifice - is four days long and begins the day after pilgrims complete Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims worldwide.

mtvU part of UMKC TV

MTV is coming to UMKC. mtvU, the new 24-hour spin-off of MTV, has been added to the list of channels broadcasting on UMKC TV. This new channel provides an alternative to standard music television for college students and gives advertisers and music-promotion companies access to college-age viewers, a valuable but traditionally difficult-to-reach demographic group.

For many students, it's hard to picture a new semester without the long lines of tables, free giveaways and student organizations that come together to greet students at the beginning of the new semester.
