Search continues for student

No leads in Ross' disappearance

Jesse Ross has plenty of reasons to come home. The 19-year-old sophomore is a well-liked student with friends across the campus and throughout Kansas City. He is looking forward to finishing up his new room in his parents' home, which was built especially for him.

World Aids Day

Students brave cold for AIDS awareness

More than 30 students from UMKC and the University of Kansas Medical Center bundled up against the cold and gathered at the J.C. Nichols Fountain at 47th and J.C. Nichols Parkway last Friday. They did so to honor World AIDS Day. Their mission was to increase awareness of AIDS.

Winter weather slams campus

Inclement weather forced UMKC to shut down twice last week. The campus, much of the Kansas City metro area, and the Midwest were hit with freezing rain and sleet followed by a snow storm. The campus saw about five inches of snow, but areas of Lee's Summit and Overland Park got as much as eight inches.

Low-enrollment classes may be cut

As the semester comes to an end, students are starting to schedule for winter 2006 classes. Students may have difficulty deciding what courses to take, and it is often hard to find time to schedule. But faculty members recommend students enroll as soon as possible.

Twin Oaks demolition update

Students hoping to snap photos of the wrecking ball at work on Twin Oaks before the end of the semester will have to wait. The demolition, originally scheduled for the first weeks of December, has been pushed back slightly. "The project is on schedule, but the order in which things happen has changed," said Bob Simmons, director of Campus Facilities.

Campus life releases nervous tension

Whether a procrastinator or a studious person, all students need a break while studying. Finals are Dec. 11-15. Many upcoming events will inspire the students as they continue to hit the books. The Activity and Program Council (APC) has contributed to the needs of students throughout the years at UMKC, and the importance of their service is significantly stressed this time of year.

Student Affairs honors seven students

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs honors seven full-time students active within the community. "This recognition is based on the premise that the University should honor the students who maintain high scholastic performance while actively participating in University programs outside the classroom," said Mel Tyler, interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs.

Campus Ivanhoe program stages field trip The Ivanhoe program, one which provides student mentors to children living in the Ivanhoe neighborhood, has planned a field trip for Friday, Dec. 8. The trip, which includes an on-campus dinner as well as a jazz performance at the Conservatory of Music, was picked by the students, according to program organizer Kimberly Baker-Flowers.

Nov. 16 10 p.m. Burglary - A faculty member reported his laptop computer stolen from Flarsheim Hall. Later it was discovered the property had not been stolen. Nov. 17 1:25 p.m. Information - Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on a student's e-mail account in the Administrative Center.
