The UMKC women's basketball team started the 2006-07 season the right way - they won. But the Kangaroo squad immediately afterward took to the road and started a five-game skid. The women started the losing streak with a 72-89 loss Nov. 13 at the hands of the Colorado State University Rams.
The men's basketball team fell short of their goal to win the 2006 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout. The squad lost a heartbreaker in the opening round against the University of Pacific, 70-71, and played an agonizing and unrewarding game of catch-up with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, falling 70-77.

The committee formed to present candidates for the university's athletic director position kicked off its search just prior to UMKC's Thanksgiving break. "The tentative plan [for the committee] is for a relatively aggressive search," said Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Rick Anderson.
