The holiday season would not be complete without the Kansas City Repertory Theatre's annual presentation of "A Christmas Carol." This year marks the Rep's 26th production of Charles Dickens' classic tale. Even in 2006, Ebenezer Scrooge, the ghosts, and Tiny Tim are still as entertaining as ever.
The second newEar concert of the season, Reconciliations, took place Nov. 18 at Unity Temple on the Plaza. The Contemporary Chamber Music Ensemble performed the works of Osvaldo Golijov, Mauricio Kagel, Jerome Kitzke and Preston Stahly. The opening piece of the concert, "Kestrel" by Stahly, was beautifully performed by percussionist Mark Lowry, Tabitha Reist-Steiner on harp and Lyra Pherigo on flute.
Wolfgang's Vault has been my favorite Web site of the past few months, mainly because of my affinity for the classic music of the '60s and '70s. The Web site, www.wolfgangsvault.com, is an outlet for me to escape into a world I unfortunately didn't have a chance to grow up in.

The art of sound, the sound of art, or the art and the sound … This curious amalgam of two words has been occupying the thoughts of some faculty members from the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) and the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. These folks, who wanted to transcend the daily issues of art and music, decided to put together a series of events to deal with the convergence between the two.
Nothing is special anymore. The good old days of Thanksgiving as the kickoff to the holiday season are long gone. The days of sitting on the couch, trying to stay awake despite all the tryptophan, and watching the holidays start when the Plaza lights flicker on are over.
The first monthly International Celebration was held in honor of Albania and Dominica last Wednesday. The International Student Affairs Office celebrated Albania and Dominica's independence days with food, drink, and a slideshow with photos and information about the countries.
