Kansas City Star writer and UMKC alumnus Charles Coulter held a lecture on campus last Tuesday about his recent local history book, "Take Up The Black Man's Burden: Kansas City's African American Communities 1865-1939." He gave an optimistic, upbeat lecture on the progress of education for African Americans.
