Protestors young and old gathered at 55th St. and Ward Parkway last Friday to show their disapproval of President George W. Bush's visit to help raise funds for Senator Jim Talent. Bush was welcomed with chants ranging from the simple, "No Talent, No Bush," to the more complex, "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Bush and Talent have got to go," as he and his entourage rolled past the activists to the house of Scott Ward, co-president of Russell Stover Candies Inc.
The University of Missouri-Kansas City student group Feminists United held their second Free Pizza and Sex(ed) session behind Royall Hall last Thursday. The event, which lasted from 12:30-2 p.m., was designed to educate students about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and birth control, and to dispel common myths about sex.
After listening to faculty and staff parking concerns, the University administration has made some concessions. "I think things are changing, and changing for the good," Faculty Senate Chair Gary Ebersole said at last Tuesday's senate meeting. He cited an amended parking policy as one example of positive change.
In an effort to better coordinate communication between UMKC staff, faculty, and students, Provost Bruce Bubacz was present for a Q&A session at the regular Staff Council Governing Board's monthly meeting last Wednesday morning. Bubacz first told the council of his enthusiasm for the joint staff, faculty, and students' awards ceremony on Convocation day.
The African American Student Union (TAASU) and the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) hosted a progressive dinner together as part of their Welcome Series. The purpose of the dinner was to reach out to minority students, but the event was open to all students.

The Mercury Association and the Student Film League (SFL) hosted a "Meet and Greet" event last Thursday in Haag Hall. Although everybody was welcomed to the meeting, mostly communication studies students and faculty were present. The organizations introduced the Communication Studies Department and events, and encouraged everybody to join their organization while enjoying free pizza and movie tickets.
Pierson Auditorium opened its doors last Wednesday to students attending UMKC's Center for International Studies Program's third annual study abroad fair. The fair began amid a room full of representatives and study abroad advisors ready to answer any questions.

She is unsure when the damage occurred. 1:56 p.m. Vehicular accident - A driver was backing into traffic and hit another driver's vehicle.
Campus Epperson House fire Water cascaded down the steps of UMKC's Epperson House after a small fire was extinguished last Tuesday. The attic in the building caught on fire around 12:30 p.m. Construction workers who were welding touched off insulation in the attic, which caused the blaze.
