A group of Twin Oaks residents fighting the demolition of their home staged a brief protest last Tuesday at the steps of the Administrative Center. Nazi hunter speaks at UMKC Eli Rosenbaum will discuss his 20 years as a Nazi hunter at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the School of Law Courtroom. Rosenbaum now heads the Office of Special Investigations, a branch of the Department of Justice whose primary mission is to track down, denaturalize and deport any person living in the United States who was involved with the crimes of Nazi persecution.
A man who has been in the newspaper business since elementary school has been hired to serve as faculty advisor for The University News. Fred Wickman was recently hired by Bryan Le Beau, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, to replace former U-News advisor Bob Unger.
Dr. Elizabeth Carnegie emphasized the great strides that African Americans have made in the field of nursing to a full house last Thursday night at Unity Temple on the Plaza. She pointed out that in 1878 the School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts only permitted the admittance of one African American and one Jew per school year.
UMKC and college campuses across the nation are experiencing a significant increase in the number of students who have depression, according to several recent national studies. The Counseling, Health and Testing Center on 4825 Troost has seen a 65 percent increase in visits since opening in 2000.
February 11 At 9:15 a.m., UMKC police were dispatched to the University Academy on 5605 Troost to gain information. A student was being expelled due to his behavior and reacted by becoming upset and leaving school premises. At 2:40 p.m., police were dispatched to 4825 Troost for an injury.
