Floyd fills chancellor vacancy

University of Missouri (UM) System President, Elson Floyd, is filling in as chancellor while the hunt for an interim replacement continues. The division of his time between Columbia and Kansas City has followed the recent resignation of former Chancellor Martha Gilliland on Jan.

Severe weather procedures questioned

Last Wednesday, as ice and snow choked Kansas City and closed down UMKC, Dee Ann Wauthier made a slow, slippery commute to campus. She is "essential staff" in the School of Dentistry, which means she had little choice. Rain, sleet, snow or shine, she is expected to report for work; her husband, Gary, who is not "essential staff," was along for the ride.

Funding increases fail in SGA referendum

Student fee increases and several amendments to the Student Government Association's (SGA) constitution failed passage in the 2004 Referendum vote, held on finals week last semester. Ballots available only online and low voter turnout characterized the election that saw participation from fewer than 600 of the University's 14,000 eligible voters.

Parking structure additions Over winter break and into the first weeks of school, the Oak Street Parking structure is being updated. The dim yellow ceiling lights have been replaced with bright metal halide lights. These new bulbs illuminate twice as much area as the previous lights and will not fade over time.

Corrections

Due to an editor's error in the Nov. 29 article "UMKC crime wave unfounded" the caption misidentified Troy Smith, the officer in the photograph. Due to an editor's error in the Dec. 6 article "Chancellor Gilliland resigns," an emergency Board of Curators meeting which was reported in fact did not take place.
