Swinney censors paper

Administration unaware of newspaper's removal

Employees of Swinney Recreation Center removed some 450 copies of the University News from the building's newsstand last week in addition to cutting power to the stand's lighted advertisement and scrolling marquee. After a complaint was filed with the campus police on Saturday, officers investigated the matter and confirmed that the papers had been removed by Swinney's building manager because of their content.

A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE - The fence outside the Bloch School of Business and Public Administration was damaged when a car collided with it on March 30. According to a police report, the driver was exiting the parking lot but was forced off the road by an unknown vehicle as he tried to make a left turn.

Parking passes to increase

Officials from Parking Operations announced that the price of hang tags will be increase to $72 dollars each for the fall and winter semesters. Combined, the price for a school year is now $144 and rises to a flat fee of $216 if students also opt to purchase a tag for the summer semester.

Osborne named interim provost

Chancellor Martha Gilliland has found a stand-in while she scans the academic job pool for a new provost. Dean William Osborne of the School of Computing and Engineering accepted the interim position following the departure of former Provost Dr. Steve Ballard, who accepted the position of chancellor at East Carolina University.

Fuentes lecture rescheduled after illness

World-renowned Latin American author, activist and diplomat Carlos Fuentes is set to appear at Unity Temple on the Plaza on Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Fuentes was scheduled to appear last Monday to speak on political dissent but was unable to attend because of an illness.

Martin, an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy, has had an amazing rise since graduating with degrees in chemistry and philosophy from Baylor University in Waco, Texas more than 14 years ago.

The prowler was actually a resident who had been locked out. - A physical confrontation between two students was reported at the University Academy. Twin Oaks has gone through many changes since it originally opened. Some residents have been around to watch its metamorphoses take place over decades. "I've lived here about 15 years. I was here when it was grand, splendid. There was a wonderful restaurant, a gift shop and beauty salon.
