More than 200 pairs of boots and civilian shoes lined the University Walkway on Nov. 17, representing the soldiers, marines and civilians killed in the Iraq War. The boots and shoes were part of "Eyes Wide Open," an exhibit designed to increase awareness of the human and economic costs of the ongoing war in Iraq.

With Thanksgiving break fast approaching, UMKC Conservatory opera students were far from relaxed. The Conservatory started the break with a wonderful production of Benjamin Britten's "Albert Herring." This comic opera in three acts showcase a wide variety of UMKC talent in an elaborate tale of a small English village in 1900.
So now our Provost, Dr. Gail Hackett, may be leaving after a mere 10 months on the job. Does this mean the search firm has to give us back the money it charged? It's highly unlikely. When I heard she had announced Nov. 25 she was one of two finalists to become provost of Texas Tech (where UMKC ex-Chancellor Dr. Guy Bailey transferred this summer), I was sorely tempted to pen a rant on the subject.
The UMKC men's basketball team ended their stay in the Sunshine State on a dull note, losing to the Florida Gators 86-65 in Orlando, Fla. Sunday afternoon. Florida sophomore Alex Tyus scored 25 points and the Gators burned the Roos for 52 points in the paint, running their record to 5-1 on the season.
