Women overwhelmed in marathon-like match play

Facing defeat against four opponents in three days left the UMKC women's tennis team looking up from the bottom of the Mid-Continent Conference standings.

Losses at the hands of Western Illinois University (5-2), Southern Utah University and Oral Roberts University (each by an identical 7-0 score), and at the end of the merciless run to Centenary (5-2) revealed glaring holes in the Kangaroos' game.

The Roos will spend the next 12 days gearing up for still more conference action in Rochester, Mich., on April 13 when they face off against Oakland University and Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis.

Men's tennis dominant in pre-break action

On the heels of a masterful performance by senior tennis player Richard Harrison, the Kangaroo men took both matches played. UMKC won a sharply contested match with Saint Louis University, 4-3, in the face of stormy weather at the Plaza Tennis Center.

Next up for the charging Kangaroos was a 7-0 whitewash of South Dakota State University on March 24. Harrison won all four of his matches during the two days of court action.

The men will next face Western Illinois University and Oral Roberts University in Indianapolis, Ind., on April 13 and 14.

Harrison nabs Mid-Con tennis honors

Senior Richard Harrison was named Mid-Continent Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 27. Winning all four matches he participated in - which included both singles and doubles matches - Harrison, who hails from Colchester, Essex, England, was an easy choice for the award.

During the spring season Harrison holds a season record of 4-2 in both singles and doubles action.
