The Life of a News Editor/Has Britney Spear's lost her mind?

I am tired. It has been a hell of a week and every fiber in my body is just tired. I would like to push pause on life and take a nap, but that is wishful thinking at best.

Almost every day last week, I stayed up until 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. studying or completing homework. I'm not that much of a procrastinator; there's just not enough time in the day to get everything done. I still haven't read last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday's Kansas City Star. I suppose I should just give up and start with this week's news. Oh, I almost forgot about the reading I need to catch up on in all my classes, I need to clean my cat's litter box, buy plane tickets, and order bridesmaids dresses!

Both Saturday and Sunday, I was up until 3 a.m. being the News Editor that I am. I must really love being a journalist. Otherwise, I wouldn't work these long hours with dismal pay. But there is just something I enjoy about telling people's stories and delivering the news.

Some students have misperceptions about what goes on at the U-News and how much work we actually do. I know this because of an incident that happened a few semesters back when I was covering the Student Government Association beat. During a meeting, certain SGA senators introduced resolutions to pay themselves something like $100 for their work. One senator said they should tread carefully on this issue because it might not look good in the U-News. Then another senator (name I won't mention) made one of his usual wise cracks about how we all can't make the big bucks like students who work at the U-News. I almost laughed aloud. I still chuckle about it to this day.

If someone is striking it rich working at the U-News or any other campus job, please let me know so I can get in on it because there certainly isn't any big bucks being made around here. The editors and I put in all this work because we care about our student newspaper and want to deliver a quality product to faculty, students, staff and the KC metropolitan area. It has nothing to do with the money.

Anyway, on to Britney Spears. I tried to keep it out of my system, but being the celebrity blog junkie that I am, I couldn't resist. Has Britney lost her damn mind? If you haven't heard, pop celebritard Britney Spears shaved her head over the weekend. Spears popped into an LA salon and asked the stylist to shave her head. When she refused, Britney picked up the clippers and did it herself. I think this just goes to show that Kevin Federline wasn't ever the problem with Britney. I like Britney, but she's always been trash. I want to like her now. But she is really making it so hard with the way she's carrying on. Partying every night; hanging with Paris Hilton; being photographed without covering up her cooch. C'mon Britney, you've got kids to look after. Do the world a favor just stay home for a while. Forum Editor Jonathan Pearson swears Britney is the next Anna Nicole Smith if someone from her camp doesn't intervene. I couldn't agree with Jonathan anymore. However, Britney probably needed to shave her head. Her hair had to be ruined from bleaching, dye jobs, and extensions. Maybe this Sinead O'Conner thing is her fresh start. Although I seriously doubt it, because Britney was spotted Sunday at a club wearing a blonde wig.
