Violence Prevention Series: Educational program for first year and transfer students from 2-3 p.m. in University Center, room 117.

La Bohème: Lee Goodman of the Lyric Opera Guild is speaking about Puccini's La Bohème at 7 p.m. at the Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

Lightning Swords of Death, Valdur, Typhon, Stonehaven: Musical performance at 9 p.m. at Korruption, 1717 W. 9th St., $6.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

Tuesday Tune-ups: Learn to control your stress from noon to 1 p.m. at the MindBody Connection, University Center, room 161.

Free Mugs: APC will be handing out free coffee mugs to the first 50 students to show up at the Coffeehouse between 6 and 8:30 p.m. at the Freshens in University Center.

West Coast Swing Night: Lessons and dancing start are from 6:30-11 p.m. at the Walter's Dance Center, 5032 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan., $8 per person or $6 for students with ID.

Wednesday, Aug. 27

Bloch School Alumni Association BBQ: Free food by Two Guys and a Grill from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the UMKC Bloch School Patio.

APC Outdoor Movie Night: APC will be showing "Supersize Me!" 8:30 p.m. in the Oak Street Residence Hall courtyard.

UMKC Pre-Dental Society Meeting: The Pre-Dental Society meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at the UMKC School of Dentistry, room 209.

Thursday, Aug. 28

BBQ: The Pakistan Student Association is having a BBQ from 5-9 p.m. at the University Playhouse.

APAMSA: The first meeting of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Street Residence Hall classroom.

Pablo Sanhueza and his 5tet: UMKC student Pablo Sanhueza and his 5tet will be playing at 9 p.m. at the Blue Room, 1616 E. 18th St.

Friday, Aug. 29

Bad Haggis: Come check out the hottest thing in Celtic music at 8:30 p.m. at Crown Center, Boulevard Stage.

Poet Gearoid Mac Lochlainn: Lochlainn will be reading at 8 p.m. at the Writer's Place, 3607 Pennsylvania Ave.

Chippendales: It's that time again! The Chippendales will be "performing" at 9 p.m. at the Harrah's Casino, Voodoo Lounge, $30. If you miss them this time, they'll be back in exactly one month.

Saturday, Aug. 30

Goodguys 7th Midwestern Nationals: This 50's-style car show starts at 10 a.m. at the Kansas Speedway, 400 Speedway Blvd., Kansas City, Kan., $17.
