Kappa Psi hazing still under investigation

Investigations into claims made against UMKC's Kappa Psi have not been completed. Recently, two female UMKC pharmacy students, Nicole Stinner and Sara Andrade, filed charges against the co-ed organization, alleging a hazing incident.

The two students say they were assigned the nicknames "Sorest Rump" and "Position Impossible." They were also required to change into thin, white boxer shorts and white T-shirts that Stinner called "see-through."

According to Stinner and Andrade, the initiation was wrapped up with 12 hours of egg-throwing and gross substances being rubbed into their hair. They also had to chase down a goat.

"'Degrading' would be the word I'd use to describe it," first-year Nicole Stinner told KMBC's Maria Antonia. "I was thinking, 'I'm standing in a bowling alley, completely humiliated,' not exactly sure why I was doing it."

"Totally humiliating and degrading," said first-year Sara Andrade in the same interview.

"I can't give out much information because this incident is still under investigation," said Captain Bongartz of the UMKC Police Department. "There hasn't been a formal presentation yet [as of April 21, 2006] but we have turned over all the information we have to the prosecutor's office."

According to Van Buckley at the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, things will not progress until the office receives a formal presentation from the UMKC Police Department.

UMKC is doing an independent investigation that is still underway. Until its completion, the Student Life Office declines to answer any questions or release any information on the case.

"Review is almost complete," said John Allen, University Communications, on Friday. "It has not yet been made official. Our review is still in progress."

While the Kappa Psi hazing investigation continues at UMKC, students around the country are talking about the incident. Several have posted messages on fraternity and sorority Greek chat network www.GreekChat.com.
