Popeye rocks my world

The day of been dreading is finally here, Valentine's Day. What a crappy day for a single gal like me. I'm not expecting any chocolates. There's no date planned. There won't be any flowers or jewelry. I actually have classes all day on Wednesdays. I suppose it's a blessing in disguise. From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., I will be able to immerse myself in schoolwork and not think about my lack of love and loneliness on Valentine's Day 2007.

But, that's not going to stop me from talking about love here in my blog. I decided to list a few of the characteristics found in fictional characters and real life people that I'd like to have in a potential suitor.

Popeye the Sailor Man

Yes, I'm talking about the spinach eating cartoon character. A late night bit of insomnia had me watching old black and white episodes of Popeye several nights ago. Maybe it was the lack of sleep, but Popeye seemed kind of hot that night. In the cartoons, he always saved Olive Oyl from that seedy villain Bluto. Popeye is number five on my list because I want a guy who can save me from time to time.

A voice like Ludacris

I love the way rapper/actor Ludacris' voice sounds. I want my man to have an equally masculine deep voice.

Noah Calhoun from the "The Notebook"

Okay the ladies know what I'm talking about. I read "The Notebook" as a book and watch it repeatedly as a movie. How great was Ryan Gosling in that role? The character of Noah Calhoun was such a sweetheart. He knew Allie was the one even before she realized it. He waited for her his whole life. How sexy is that? At the end of the movie, Noah says, "…it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day." Noah Calhoun from "The Notebook" tops my list because I want a guy to love me for me. I want a man who realizes that love is difficult, who will stick it out with me through the lows as well as the highs.

Mr. Darcy

The ladies know what I'm talking about here, too. I don't think any explanation is necessary for why I'd want a little bit of Jane Austen's character from "Pride and Prejudice" in a mate. Mr. Darcy just makes you swoon.

Tom Cruise exhibits characteristics that I don't want in a mate. He has those crazy eyes. That crazy smile. Tom Cruise is out there and not in a good way. He's obviously controlling and I don't want any part of that in a future mate. For me, proof that Tom is controlling is evident in how he changed Katie Holmes' name to Kate when they began dating. The scientology thing works against Tom, too. I don't want a man that is involved in any off the wall religions or cults.
