Play it by Ear - 'Chinese Democracy' - New Guns N' Roses album lacks firepower

Abstract:
"There will be democracy in China before there's Chinese Democracy" people used to say. No longer: Chinese Democracy, the long awaited Guns N' Roses album, is finally here. Was it worth the wait?

Eh.

After 14 years of production and countless line-up changes, Axl Rose's attempt at a rock masterpiece has a lot to live up to....

your an idiot who knows nothing about production, tracking, or playing - or writing a god damn note. For those of us who do - its easy to see this as one of the best crafted, produced, and played records of all time.

It's called growing up ! Is he supposed to sing about heroin and hookers still ? Or has he grown as a musician and wrote from his heart ? You can't say his heart isn't on his sleeve here. He doesn't care if you want another afd , he 's being true to himself. I think it is great and a fresh sound. the music world has forgotten just how great Axl is !!

jeeeeeeshhh....I'm so weary of reading the exact same criticism every day. What is the friggin deal??

Appetite was 20 years ago. Slash is gone. (Left on his own I might add..after bringing Axl 12 songs and refusing to compromise when Axl said they had potential). Izzy quit because he couldn't handle the drug scene. Axl's fault too I suppose.

These are brand new people playing here. Why the hell would it sound like the old Guns n Roses? What would be the point of that?

You don't think Better, Street of Dreams, Catcher in the Rye, If the World, are good songs??? That's hard to believe. I mean, come on, you would have to be made of wood not to feel a chill when those choruses kick in, and that Axl growl comes in.

I'm wasting my time writing this. The ones who don't like this record, don't like Axl....period. None are so blind but those who will not see.

I feel like most of the bad reviews are based on... It took 14 years.....Slash is no longer in the band. The music is good. If he changed the name of the band everyone would think its great...

Maybe you need a hearing aid, or you fell asleep during music appreciation class. The CD rocks, and yes, it was worth the wait. Try listening to it sober, if you are ever able to get that way.

I don't know how you can say tracks like "Catcher in the Rye", "This I Love" and "Prostitute" aren't memorable. In my book these tracks and others are right up there with the old GNR's catalog.

why does everyone compare this or anything else to appetite? that was 21 years ago and was magnificent but times have moved on..new styles and ideas..appetite was recorded on tape before pro tools even existed..whilst i agree its not anywhere as good but neither is anything else in the charts right now..its obvious some of the tracks were finished a long time ago so i dont get the whole thing of it taking him so long. its more true that he didn't want to release anything or be in the spotlight anymore.. so i think he should be commended for producing a fine piece of work that will appeal to new younger fans and be left alone..after all he cant cross the road without someone calling him mad.. its not a bad album by todays standards at all but maybe is not supposed to be taken as a hard rock record..just enjoy it as music..plus all you guys were the same guys giving them shit back in the late 80s( appetite was released in 87)..some things never change
