Should UMKC change its name back to the University of Kansas City?

Abstract:
"Being University of Kansas City by itself, you can establish your identity apart from MU. Being in the UM System, you're tied there, especially coming from the engineering department. ... We just got accreditation in 2001."

I think "University of Kansas City" would be a tremendous improvement. It would better convey the individuality and autonomy of the university. I would certainly feel an increased sense of pride.

I think changing the name to exclude the state would deteriorate national credibility.

I'm not sure why this article was written in the first place, but I definitely hope UMKC NEVER disbands from the U of M system. It would have a tragic effect on the value of our degrees.
