i strongly agree with the judges,they scored it perfectly,people gotta understand that the champion is defending the title against the chalenger rua,rua did not do enough to win the fight,he was more afraid to get hit,u have to commit when u r challenging for the light heavyweight title,lol,rua got out classed,what a few kicks to the ribs,please that not enough,lyoto is the real deal rua sucks

agreed!!!! machida was doing pretty good defending(aside from the kicks)..but even after all them kicks machida still didnt go down and rua still didnt go in for the kill lol..!!!!! in the rematch rua will get killed!!! machida will have an answer to them leg kicks and then what?? thats all rua has!!! Shogun didnt do enough to win on any judges score card... but Forrest Griffin did enough to beat Rampage?!?!? IMO the judging is subjective as hell

the majority of ufc fighters had shogun winning the fight, and when i say majority, i mean about 99 per cent, so maybe guys like randy couture dont know anything about MMA RETARD

What blind faith in authority.

.. When Lyoto Machida has blazed through all his previous fights making his opponents look bad, the expectations of people "including" fighters is that he will do the the same thing to Rua. The betting odds were ridiculous with that kind of mentality. Then, here comes the fight, Rua hits Machida more than anyone else has ever done, - and the perceived notion is that he automatically won the fight. Did Rua do a phenominal job? Hell yeah! Does that mean he won the fight? Hell no! Anyone's judgement can be blurred when expectations are set so high, regardless of whether you are a fighter or a fan. If you back up, slow down and get your bias, mob mentality, and emotion out of the way and watch the fight objectively, Machida won the first three rounds, albeit very close. The fourth round was a draw, and Rua definitely won the 5th. The judges did their job. Let the rematch settle the debate, I'm sure they will get some different judges.

most judges are ex-boxing judges or boxer so right off the bat they favor punching and if im not mistaken one of the judges said when lyoto got hit by those kicks he didnt show any emosion so he didnt think it hurt .... WHAT A DUMB FUCK kicks hurt twice as much as punches do. Plus are you blind??? Did you see his body and face at the end?? Shogun wasnt as bad.

2) i personally love this "you have to beat a champ to be a champ" really ok all i gotta say is rampage vs griffin and if your like what? You should not be picking sides on this arguement.

3)this one makes me laugh lyoto controled the match lmao ok not at all. Shogun was the aggressor and control lyoto.... My proof is if lyoto controled it why didnt he knock out shogun or submit him

4) even lyoto thought he lost look at his face lmao at the end of the fight.

I greatly appreciate the comments so far both negative and positive. Let me make a few points.

1) Please keep it mature. I don't mean to call you out Berto, but calling someone a 'fag' does not help your arguments.

2) The piece is very opinionated, it's called a sports column for a reason. Obviously, I am one of the people who went against the hype of "Rua's going to destroy Machida".

3) I for one would love to see these two fight again and with different judges. All people obviously have their own personal bias, including the judges who are not supposed to. The 'ex-boxing' background of many of these judges is very true, but they are forced to learn how to score the fights the correct way in MMA. This is not to say that they are scoring the fights correctly, and I am all for a totally different set of judges if there is a rematch.
