There's more to life than Harry Potter

Abstract:
Millions of readers are disoriented and depressed. The Harry Potter phenomenon has come and gone. What do we do now?

We persist. The group of readers should not die out because the most popular book series of the 21st century is over.

Believe it or not, there are other fantasy books out there just as satiating as the Harry Potter series....

I, too, am despondent that the Harry Potter series has ended. However, there are many other writers whose works are just as enjoyable as Rowlings. Right now I am reading one of my new favorite authors, Anne McCaffrey. Her Dragonriders of Pern series and her Pegasus/Rowan/Tower series are fabulous. I can't wait to dig into her other series. She draws sharp, memorable characters and wonderfully imagined universes in her science fantasy genres. I recommend her to everyone.

Let me put in my two cents: try Guy Gavriel Kay's trilogy "the Fionavar Tapestry" and what I consider his best of best "Tigana" Not for children these.

While I was definitely sad when I finished Book 7, I have moved on. Currently to a history book about the generation before the civil rights movement in the South, but that's besides the point.

Try "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray. I picked up this book at a Borders one day because of it's cover- amazing! It's a really good fantasy read. I love fantasy but I'm rather picky about which ones I read. She then released the second, "Rebel Angels" and the third is due out in September, "The Sweet Far Thing". If you liked Harry Potter, you'll like those! I swear!

Good work, man. I just started a fun Ursula K. Le Guin book that made me think of you and all the wizardry we so enjoy.
Also, someday I'll make it to a Sunday meeting. This time I was stuck prying rocks from the earth in Middle of Nowhere, Missouri.

I have finished reading the Deathly Hallows for the second time now, in between having re-read Order of the Phoenix, and Half-Blood Prince. I am not despondent...on the contrary, I am exhilarated. If Harry had died, I probably would be depressed. I keep finding new and interesting meanings in these books, apart from sheer fiction. Along with wizards and witches and magic, these books contain theology.

Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series is one of my favorites. Lyra and Will have battled Ron, Harry, and Hermoine for my heart since the day I began reading "The Golden Compass". But I don't think anything will ever make me forget all the great times I spent at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. :]
