Eat for Life: This 10-week course is designed to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind and body. KC Improv Festival: Fifteen acts will perform at the Kansas City Improv Festival, including nationally-recognized improvisers from live venues across the nation. Performances start at 7 p.m. Sept. 9-12, at the Off Center Theater inside of Crown Center. Thursday, Sept. 10

Study Abroad Fair: Begins at 11 a.m. at Pierson Auditorium in the University Center.

Rob Whitsitt Quartet: Watch them perform live at 7 p.m. in the Blue Room inside the American Jazz Museum. Admission is free.

Beauty in Flight: Attend a fashion show benefitting the Rose Brooks domestic violence shelter. Event starts at 7:30 p.m. in Leawood's Park Place Development, 117th Street and Nall Avenue. "Berdella": View the premiere screening of the film adaptation of Bob Berdella, Kansas City's infamous serial killer. Written and produced by UMKC alumnus Paul South and Rockhurst University alumnus Bill Taft. Show starts at 9 p.m. at the Screenland Theater. Friday, Sept. 11

Art Westport: For three days, 120 local artists will showcase their work at the 30th Annual Art Westport Event, Westport Road and Pennsylvania Avenue. Free to the public with live bands and a variety of food vendors. Hours: Friday 5-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Tosca": The Lyric Opera of Kansas City opens its season with "Tosca," performed in Italian with English subtitles. Performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre, 11th Street and Central Avenue.

Tech n9ne: Performing at 9 p.m. at the Granada in Lawrence with Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun and Big Scoob. Tickets are $31.

Get Up Kids: Check out these local indie rockers performing at 8 p.m. at the VooDoo Lounge for their reunion tour. Tickets are $23-45.

Do You Bleed Blue and Gold?: Take part in the 5th Annual Blood Drive and do your part by donating blood for someone in need. Begins at 9:30 a.m. in the north lobby of Swinney Recreational Center.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Party: Celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage month with UMKC's Afro-Latin Connection club. From 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. is a concert at Jardine's, 4536 Main St. All performers are members of the UMKC community. $3 cover charge, must be 21.

Crossroads Music Festival: The 5th annual Crossroads Music Fest highlights the best of Kansas City's arts and entertainment. Event takes place in the Crossroads District, 16th and McGee streets.

Chile Pepper Fest: Celebrate the world's spiciest vegetable at Powell Gardens. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy chef demonstrations, sample entries from local restaurants and special activities for kids. Regular admission to Powell Gardens applies, and an expanded variety of salsa peppers is available with a $5 Taste Tester Ticket.

Keep Kansas City Beautiful: Plant a rain garden and bio-swale with the pros from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at English Landing Park in Parkville, Mo. Garden Fairy Tea Party: At 2 p.m., Powell Gardens is hosting an outdoor tea party with fairy sandwiches and pastries. There will also be face painting and storytelling. Tickets available for purchase online. Don't forget your wings!

Hangover Jazz Brunch: Enjoy jazz music, mimosas, Bloody Marys and a breakfast buffet that benefits Newhouse shelter. Brunch goes from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Jazz Club, 302 W. 8th St. $15.
