Harris honored by Summit League

In recognition of his performance over the span of his first two games, Sept. 2, UMKC senior soccer forward Brian Harris was named Summit League Offensive Player of the W eek. Harris scored the go-ahead goal late in the second half Aug. 29 against 16th ranked University of Illinois Chicago. The match resulted in a 2-2 tie. Harris added another strike to his credit during UMKC's 3-2 loss at Eastern Illinois University Aug 31. Head Coach Rick Benben said that Harris was worthy of the honor. "Brian is well deserving," he said. "He's a real pleasure to have around. He had a great weekend and he's off to a great start."

UMKC softball co-sponsors skills camp

A softball skills camp will be held Sept. 12-13 at Tiffany Hills Sports Park, 8400 Northwest Tiffany Springs Road. The Kangaroo Skills Camp, a joint effort between UMKC softball and the Northland Sports Alliance, will begin with a pitchers and catchers camp from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, followed by an all-skills camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. UMKC women's softball Head Coach Meredith Smith will be joined by her staff to conduct the two-day clinic. Equipment (i.e. batting helmets, gloves, bats, turf shoes, cleats and catcher's protective gear) will not be provided. Pitchers must provide their own catchers for the Friday camp. Registration fees start at $35 for the pitcher and catcher camp. There is a $50 fee for the all-skills camp and a $75 fee for attendees of both clinics. Carroll hired as director of strength and conditioning

UMKC looked to the Big 12 Conference to find a new director of strength and conditioning for the Kangaroo Athletic Department. The university named Trumain Carroll, former Oklahoma State University Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to the post Sept. 4. Carroll oversaw strength operations for the women's basketball team at OSU and assisted in the same program with the men's football team. Carroll played defensive end for the Pokes from 2001-05 and also earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the university.

UMKC Athletics to hold annual golf tournament

The 21st Annual UMKC Athletics Golf Classic will be held at the Oakwood Country Club on Mon., Sept. 29. Shotgun starts begin at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A tournament kick-off party is slated for Saturday, Sept. 27 at The Pavilion at Arrowhead.
