Led by a strong finish by UMKC sophomore Alex Hogben, the Kangaroo men's golf team landed in the middle of the field at the conclusion of last week's Louisiana Classics golf tournament.
Even more impressive was the Roos finished just five strokes short of third place in the 14-team field.
The University of Colorado won the tournament with 13 strokes to spare over second place Southern Methodist University.
The Kangaroos' final round total of 290 propelled them back into the heart of the field, finishing with an 888 score. UMKC improved as a team in each round with scores of 301, 297 and then the seven-stroke improvement in the final round.
Hogben tied for the high round on the last day with a one-under-par 71. When added to his other two rounds of play, it spelled a total of 220, which was good enough for a 15th place finish.
The tournament marked the Englishman's best round since his medalist finish in a tournament at Oral Roberts University earlier in the year.
UMKC junior Brett Iliff scored a three round total of 221, one stroke off his teammate's pace and placing him in the 17th position individually at the tournament.
The squad returns to action on March 17-18 at the UALR First Tee Intercollegiate in Little Rock, Ark.
