UMKC senior thrower Sky Hagy put together the best performance of his career as a member of the blue and gold on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. Competing at the Missouri State Big Bear Invitational, Hagy finished on top in the hammer throw (173' 9"), the javelin throw (151' 10"), the shot put (47' 3 1/2") and the discuss throw (132' 2").
The clean sweep by the Kangaroo athlete gave the squad a lift as it proceeds into the heart of the outdoor track and field season. Another UMKC senior, Colin Smith won the men's high jump competition with a mark of 5' 8 3/4".
One other championship effort was achieved on the afternoon, though this one occurred on the women's side of the competition. The 4x100 meter relay team whose members names were not available at press time won their event with a time of 48.23 seconds.
UMKC sophomore thrower Carolyn Ludwig took home a pair of medals of her own. Though they were of the bronze variety, Ludwig took third place in the hammer throw (120'3") and the javelin throw (73'0").
UMKC senior jumper Courtney Huber added a third place finish to her trophy case as well with her jump of 5' 5 3/4".
Jessica Scott, a UMKC senior long distance runner did not medal but finished strong with a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter run. Scott's time for the event was recorded at 10 minutes and 40.77 seconds.
The Kangaroos continue their season on April 12 in Wichita, Kan. at the K. T. Woodman Relays.
