Holidays bring race for jobs

Holiday hopes for extra cash are dwindling for some as the search for a part-time job becomes harder this year. Unlike in years past, most retail stores are not clamoring at the same rate for seasonal help. To make matters worse, the demand for lower-level retail jobs increases as the unemployment rate goes up.

The people's voices have been heard thanks to democracy at work. With the aid of surveys, the Student Union Steering Committee has determined a list of four restaurants to be housed in the new Student Union, set to open in August 2010. The list includes Chick-fil-A, SubConnection, Jazzman's Cafe and Baja Fresh Mexican Grill.

The hit television series "Bewitched" popularized the idea of humans living a typical life with immortals. "Bell, Book and Candle" was the inspiration for this phenomenon. "The show 'Bewitched' is based off this play," said Jennifer Seward, a UMKC student and the play's female lead.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else noticed the extensive and numerous sewage spills into our waterways within just the past few months, let alone the past year? To put a number to it, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) has reported hundreds of millions of gallons of raw sewage spilled into Missouri's waterways in the past year.

Saturday night the men took a demanding victory, 80-33, over the Truman State University Bulldogs in their season opener after a closing three-pointer from sophomore guard Dustin Dibble. The men came out strong when junior forward Jay Couisnard won the tip and dropped a quick basket.
